Google Maps/Navigation/Latitude
« on: August 30, 2013, 08:51:43 AM »
Hey everyone. After rooting and installing google framework on my device using Moogvo's guide here http://asteroid.doisara.com/index.php?topic=6.0, I can confirm that Google Maps 6.8.1 works flawlessly on this with gps, turn by turn navigation. As long as you are connected to the internet via USB dongle or BT tethering, google maps works and navigation work great. Im just curious now to see if navigation will work with just the GPS with no internet, Ill check and report back for you. Ive attached the APK i used, just copy it to /system/app and change permissions to user:rw  group:r other:r and reboot!

EDIT: SO! navigation works without a data connection, just know that you wont get map updates as you travel nor traffic information which makes sense. The map still displays but at closer zoom levels, the picture gets distorted.

This seems to be working well except that I'm getting a login failed error when accessing certain functions.  Any ideas?

Ultimately to fix this issue, I performed a hard reset and followed the steps below.  If you want the most out of Google Maps and Navigation, follow the steps below.  Kudos to those that put this together, I just connected the dots.

Rooted, Installed Google Framework, and the Market per instructions
http://asteroid.doisara.com/rooting-and-sideloading-apps/rooting-sideloading-and-android-market/

Updated to Playstore per instructions (Newer Market 1st but within 3 minutes it updated to Playstore)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18988162

Last Google Maps w/ navigation supported by Gingerbread (6.14.4)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485892
Unzipped, installed like a normal app.

Installed Voice Search per instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449005&page=51

Installed Street View like a normal app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449005&page=102

I couldn't get Navigation to announce proper instructions or street names with Parrot or Picco so I downloaded IVONA TTS by performing a simple search in the Playstore.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivona.tts
You'll need to download a TTS voice file afterwards.  It's a large file so be prepared.  My Parrot actually restarted twice while downloading.  I was pushing it had so it's best to just let it sit and download the file.

After switching the TTS engine, Navigation purrrrd like a kitten. Settings>Advanced>Voice Input Output (something like that)

Hopefully this helps others.  It's partially for my own benefit as I wouldn't be surprised If I needed the info again.  Remember to "Thank" those who provided the original info at each step.

I have all the apps installed, but Nav does not work for me without a internet connection. I downloaded an offline map of my city, and I can see everything on the map and nav fine, but if I enter an address to navigate to, it just sits trying to find a route. Once I connect to the internet, it works fine.
