How are you using your Asteroid Smart?
« on: March 18, 2014, 06:49:45 PM »
So I've ordered a Smart and it should be here this weekend.  I'll be installing it in a Nissan Frontier with a backup camera.

I'm wondering what other's are using?  Apps, Launchers, Accessories exc.

My current plans include the backup camera, a 3g/4G mifi, some Navigation app (probably Google Maps or Tomtom), Google Play Music, Tune-In, Park Mobile.  I'd love to add a Nissan boot animation and possibly an obd2 adapter at some point. What other cool applications are people using that work well and are relevant to car infotainment?

Just got mine installed this weekend. It looks fantastic. I just ordered the backup camera as well. I tried ADW Launcher, but uninstalled it. I find the parrot interface to work just fine.

I have google maps and nav installed. It works fine with an internet connection. Nav really sucks when you have no connection, maps works great if you download an offline map. I replaced my sdcard, so I cannot use the igo app that came with the unit. I am testing scout nav. It used to be telenav. It looks promising. I have used the app on my phone, and really like the feature set. You will need to sideload the app if you want to try it. The only thing that I could even call an issue is that the load screen runs in portrait mode, but then switches to landscape. It's not really an issue, just looks funny.

I installed play music and quickly removed it. It does work, but it is not integrated well on the parrot. The main issues for me was when I stored music, it brought the parrot to its knees. the unit was non responsive for the most part while downloading. The second issue is that I could not figure out how to close the app, short of force stopping it. I am used to having an "x" soft button in the status bar, but it doesn't exist.

Definitely install asteroid tweaker, That is a great app. Other than that, I cannot think of anything else. Oh, I did install firefox. I tried dolphin, but it was slow. I would like to install chrome, I might sideload that later.

So I bought mine a few weeks ago, I rooted it right away, and loaded a Chevy Boot animation, it looks awesome and works great, 32gb stick for some music, Ive also installed Dash Command,   OBDII blue tooth snd it has to have wireless disabled to maintain a bluetooth connection to the OBDII.
